Pain Education Workshops

Pain is an agony to patients and a dilemma to clinicians; a large number of pain studies are conducted throughout the world evolving the knowledge and practice on pain management. Yet, due to pragmatic issues, there are barriers in the flow of this knowledge to communities in developing countries (especially to peripheral areas of those countries).

A series of workshops were organized to update and upgrade the knowledge of primary care doctors and nurses who are working in peripheral workstations in order to facilitate effective management of pain patients. We have been fortunate to receive an education grant to support this valuable task from IASP under their Developing Countries Project. This being a competitive grant, Sri Lanka became one of the 13 countries to receive it in the year 2010. The workshop series was conducted in two phases.
