Dr. Ravi Weerakoon President Sri Lanka Association for the Study of Pain
Message from the President As the President of Sri Lanka Association for the Study of Pain (SLASP), I am glad to introduce you to our website. This is a great opportunity to share with medical professionals and the general public with our news about lectures, workshops, research opportunities, symposia, international conferences, etc. Promoting our activity via newsletter will be helpful in cooperation with other countries in the region and worldwide. SLASP started as a small group in November 2008 with the vision of providing ready access to pain control & prevention of pain in all medical and dental disciplines. Our aim is leadership in clinical practice, pain education and research. The society facilitates pain related education for professionals and community, creating a platform to discuss issues about pain research and treatment. Sharing expertise of all disciplines involved in the pain management promoting evidence based medicine is another one of the broader aims of SLASP. Today, SLASP and the faculty of Pain of the Sri Lankan College of Anaesthesiologists work hand in hand to strengthen its set goals. SLASP joined the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) in 2009 and has been growing from strength to strength since then to be awarded full membership in 2012. I do hope that the result of creating this website will promote the awareness of pain management in all medical disciplines to reach the successful treatment of patient who suffer from pain in Sri Lanka.
